PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak successfully quelled the continuous protests of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government’s lower cadre employees on Tuesday.

A six-member delegation of union leaders, including president Jabir Hussain and general secretary Abdul Wahid, tabled their concerns before Khattak. Minister for Information Mushtaq Ghani was also present on the occasion.

After an hour-long negotiation, the CM agreed to their demands. He said the promotion orders will soon be issued and the salaries of low cadre employees will be increased from the next fiscal year, which will begin in a few months.

Earlier, hundreds gathered at the newly-named Government Hasnain Shaheed School at 11am and marched to the K-P Assembly. They said despite large-scale demonstrations, the government is yet to take their demands seriously.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a lower cadre employee Mujeebur Rehman said Minister for Finance Muzaffar Said had announced their promotions, but the establishment department halted them. “I was appointed on Grade-I 15 years ago. Only recently was I promoted to Grade-II,” said Muhammad Ashfaq, another protester.

Following negotiations with the CM, the protest was called off.
