Pakistan has expressed concern over the recent rise in “systematic human rights violations” in Indian-administered Kashmir.
“We condemn the brutal use of force by Indian security forces against peaceful and unarmed protesters, resulting in the death of two Kashmiri young men,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.
Tasnim Aslam said the people and government of Pakistan extended their heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims.
“Brutality and coercion have not, and will not, succeed in suppressing the aspirations and the struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination promised to them by the UN Security Council’s resolutions,” she said, terming the arrest of All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders on false charges “a matter of concern”.
Aslam added Pakistan has repeatedly stressed the need for a peaceful solution of the dispute through sustained and meaningful dialogue between Pakistan and India and in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiris. “Pakistan will continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support to Kashmiris”
Last week, Indian troops in Kashmir fired on anti-India protesters and killed a teenage student on the second day of violent clashes in the disputed territory.
In another demonstration, protesters chanted slogans in favour of Pakistan while waving Pakistani flags. The Indian authorities started arresting Kashmiri leaders soon after the protests. Hurriyat leaders including Yasin Malik and Syed Ali Geelani have been put under house arrest.
The latest round of protests started after New Delhi announced plans to build separate townships for Hindu migrants in the disputed Muslim majority region. The decision has drawn widespread condemnation from all quarters within the territory, with leaders describing the move as a conspiracy to turn Kashmir into another Palestine.
