Crackdown: 7 food outlets sealed for flouting laws

They fined 77 shopkeepers Rs112,200 over profiteering.

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed on Wednesday a ketchup-making factory, a fast food shop, a dairy shop and four hotels for not meeting hygiene and related food standards. The ketchup-making unit in Samanabad was sealed for using an unhygienic baking material. A burger and pizza shop on Sheikhupura Road was sealed over poor cleanliness arrangements. PFA officers sealed four hotels near Tollington Market over unhygienic conditions. The raiding team sealed a dairy shop in Nishtar colony and discarded 600 litres of adulterated milk. Separately, price magistrates conducted 739 raids to check price hike and hoarding of various items in the city. They fined 77 shopkeepers Rs112,200 over profiteering. The magistrates registered 12 cases and arrested 21 shopkeepers for profiteering. Nine were sent to jail. The district administration said it would soon conduct water quality tests at government schools.
