He was speaking at an annual sports prize distribution ceremony for girls colleges in Malakand Division held at Government Girls Postgraduate College (GGPC) Mingora on Wednesday. Government Girls Degree College (GGDC) Thana took first position in all sports categories.
“Women should be encouraged to play sports,” said Anwar. “This has become the need of the hour.” The deputy director—the chief guest—distributed prizes and shields to the winning teams and players. He also lauded the host college, GGPC Mingora, for recognising the achievements of its students.
Kokab Tabani, a physical education teacher at GGPC Mingora, said teachers should work to generate an interest in sports among girls. “Our college will not shy away from its commitments to train students for various sports competitions,” she added.

Gul Rukh, the sports in charge at the institute, lauded the commitment and dedication her students have shown to achieve excellence in sports.
“We will try our best to defend our title next year; our students will be the pride of the country,” she said.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, students who won prizes drew attention to the limited opportunities available for women in sports. Faced with these challenges, they said it was difficult to sustain active interest.
“We are happy to have participated,” said Afshan Noor, a GGPC Mingora student. “We had the opportunity to meet girls from other colleges who also share an interest in sports.”
