Lakhvi's case should not affect talks between Pakistan, India: Aziz

Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs says India’s reaction to the proceedings of Lakhvi case is irrational

ISLAMABAD: Terming India’s reaction to IHC's ruling over Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi detention 'irrational', Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Sunday said he hopes the case will not have any affect on the proposed talks between Islamabad and New Delhi, Express News reported.

India accuses Lakhvi, a senior figure of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, of being involved in planning, financing and executing the Mumbai attacks in 2008, which killed over 160 people.

Responding to Indian allegations that Pakistan is not doing enough to ensure Lakhvi remains behind the bars, Aziz said Pakistan’s judiciary is free and works independently.

“Pakistan is waiting for an invitation from the Indian side so our foreign secretary can visit India to formally resume the dialogue process,” he added.

On the water dispute between Pakistan and India, the adviser said there is a mechanism under the Indus-Water Treaty to settle the water dispute between the two countries.

“Pakistan has asked India for details regarding construction of new dams to determine if the treaty was violated; in case of any dispute, Pakistan could take up the matter to arbitrator or to the international courts,” he explained.

That quality which both the Pakistani and Indian population lacks. Sometimes from the comments that is spewed on the internet seems self serving only. As if someone up in the government will read the comments and abide by it. We all want only to live in our own make belief world. Even in our own country hardly when a person falls we do not have the will to pick the person up and walk with him. All that we know is to spew venom at others.

Secondly, this Obama thing doesn't work on every country because not every country survives on his aids, I hope you are getting what i mean. and about banning, please ban all of us Indians from visiting Pakistan, after all so many of us are dying to visit Pakistan, isn't..? even after that you can send your artists to India which we will always welcome despite resistance. Again BAN US ALL please this might help few of us save our lives.

It was his modesty despite repeated Paki foolishness. If he had not sent his FS to Pak , Pak would have been below all other country in our list.

If you truly want Pakistan to be prosperous again you can handover Lakvi, nakvi, hafiz etc to India or perhaps even some other country. If you keep the gangrenes slowly sepsis will set in and the result is usually not likable. Only a fervent mind can argue your standpoint. Pakistan's irrational exuberance of religious fanaticism has caused grief beyond repair. It is amazing how people in administration are luddite as you seem to be.

He had to send FS to pakistan, which he refused before. so please, don't do tall claims, be grounded and realistic. These two countries have to learn to live together. Its better for indian establishment to acknowledge Pakistan as a fact!

Vishnu Sharma | 9 years ago | Reply Sartaj Aziz is one of those pea-brained numb-skulls who think that India is not serious about Lakhvi, India, USA and Israel are deadly serious about this since innocent citizens from all these countries perished in the Mumbai attack and soon Pakistanis will feel tremendous international pressure to handover Lakhvi, to India, failing which we Indians know how to tighten the coils till Pakistan asphyxiates. Pakistan now resembles a deer caught in the coils of a large python. Freeing Lakhvi was the stupidest thing the policy makers did immediately after the Peshawar attack. The recent attack on Christians is also proof that Pakistan is hemorrhaging internally and many more such attacks are already lines up.

Dilip | 9 years ago | Reply @Zara In politics there are times that you have to negotiate with the "terrorist". The upper hand is not with Pakistan. Pakistan needs to revive it's economy. Bangladesh is already moving far ahead of Pakistan even though they have there own share of problems with the Jamaat. They have taken a stern decision to put to trial most of the senior Jamaaties. The same bold action is required by the Pakistaanis. Mr.Sartaj knows that he is walking a tight rope with India but he has to sound positive in all his dealings. The man is an astute side politician and he knows what is a white lie and what is a black lie. Let him do his job. His adversaries are just as astute as Mr.Sartaj and they also know all the tricks in the game. And WE are just pawns that are manipulated by both of them and the only difference is that our thoughts and mind only look at the immediate situation and rant and rave on the current issues without thinking of the consequences of our rantings. So please take things calmly.

MdiFied | 9 years ago | Reply Pakistan will be hosting 19th SAARC summit in 2016. Customary is that all heads of SAARC nations take part in summits. There have been instances when this did not happen. Test for this summit will be if Indian PM would be attending or not. If Pakistan does not change her terrorism policy, chances are very high that Indian PM won't be attending. Hope Mr Aziz is listening. Biggest diplomatic master stroke for Pakistan would be to get Mr Modi attend SAARC summit.

max | 9 years ago | Reply Best way to deal with attention seeking hyper kids is to ignore them, they live in delusion of wrong self assessment, if their mischief get dangerous just take remedial action and again leave them for introspection. Ou have overestimated the clout Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has on BJP's national government and its foreign policy. Ech time the courts have ruled in India's faor. You can continue to spend Pakistan tax payers money to allow such trips to Switzerland to your near and dear ones. India has onored the IWT even during wars with Pakistan.
