LAHORE:

Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned on Monday the hearing of a petition challenging the Lahore High Court’s earlier decision to directly appoint 696 civil judges following an National Testing Service (NTS) examination.

The petitioner, Mian Muhammad Tahir Hanif, had filed the petition saying that only the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) had been authorised to give out tests to applicants for appointment to government jobs.

According to the Judicial Officers Ordinance 1962 and Punjab Public Service Commission’s rules, the written examination for the judges’ offices should be given by the commission, he said. The petitioner has requested the Lahore High Court to stop the proposed recruitment of judges and let the Public Service Commission do its job.
