Masarat Alam who was arrested in 2010 for allegedly organising anti-India protests is now out of jail as the Indian Kashmir government has revoked his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA), the Indian Express reported.

Indian State Home Department issued a notification to the senior police officials regarding his release stating that his detention did not comply with the PSA.

“We did not approve his detention under PSA when his file was put before us somewhere in January-February this year,” Principal Secretary Home Suresh Kumar said.

However, this decision to release him apparently faced resistance from leaders within the BJP.

Kumar added that certain decisions need to be taken in cabinet meetings.

Alam is the chief of the Muslim League and a senior Hurriyat Conference leader. His anti-India protests in 2010 led to the death of 112 people in the Valley.

Secular Indian | 9 years ago | Reply BJP having lust for power has committed harakiri in forming government with Mufti. Mufti's views on Hurriyat and pro- Terror groups is well known. Inspite of such stance by Mufti team, Team modi went ahead to form coalition. BJP cannot complain against Mufti, as he is doing exactly as he is known for. Why is BJP shedding crocodile tears now? Lust for power has blinded the so-called Hindu nationalist party. Time for modi to concentrate on development of India, rather than support Mufti . Prez rule be declared immediately.
