Antiquities authorities in Egypt have been enraged after a pornographic film was reportedly filmed next to the world famous Pyramids, Al Arabiya News reported.

Russian tourists in the area allegedly shot the porn video nine months ago and uploaded it on the internet. The video was accompanied with English subtitles.

Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh al Demati on Thursday responded to the video and said that the filming was conducted illegally by a woman. He added in an official statement that the issue had been referred to the public prosecutor.

The official also stated that new surveillance cameras were to be installed in the area in an attempt to revamp the famous tourism spot after an Egyptian lawyer filed a legal complaint against the senior police chief's office and accused them of facilitating the filming of pornographic material.

Local newspaper al Masry al Youm reported that the coordinator of the Popular Front to Defend Antiquities in Egypt, Osama Karar, said that the movie included a shot of a tour guide and the name of an Egyptian tour company.

“The film was shot in broad daylight and with the knowledge of the officials in charge of the area,” Karara said in televised remarks.

Egypt's tourism sector is one of its key sources of income but has been hard hit by recent years of unrest since the 2011 uprising against former President Hosni Mubarak.

Twitter users expressed their views and opinions on the adult video.

Noman Ansari | 9 years ago | Reply Yes Egypt, this is what you should be outraged about. Consensual sex on video near the pyramids. Let's not get upset about the thousands of women raped and sexually harassed in your country. Brutally, I might add. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/06/18/egypts-sexual-harassment-pandemic-and-the-powerlessness-of-hashtags/ Pornographic videos shot without permission are something to be upset about, but let's start with the women forced to perform sexual acts against their will. When it comes to sex, Egypt has bigger problems.
