Ex-NICL chairman’s remand extended

Niazi accused of embezzling millions of rupees during the purchase of a 10-acre plot in Korangi in 2009.

KARACHI: A court extended the remand of the former chairman of the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL), Ayaz Khan Niazi, by six days on Wednesday.

Niazi has been accused of embezzling millions of rupees during the purchase of a 10-acre plot in Korangi in 2009.  On Wednesday, FIA officials requested judicial magistrate (East) Zabha Khattak for a 10-day extension in the remand.

Meanwhile, two FIA officials from Lahore have reached Karachi to interrogate Niazi. There are three FIRs filed in Karachi against him and other suspects while two FIRs have been filed against them in Lahore. The team comprising deputy director Aijaz Shah and assistant director Muhammad Ahmed is here to investigate the cases filed in Lahore.
