Behind bars: CTD arrests two suspected militants

They were wanted in several cases of terrorism and extortion.

PESHAWAR: The counter-terrorism department arrested two suspected militants from Ali Muhammad Banda, in the jurisdiction of Mathra police, on Monday.  They were wanted in several cases of terrorism and extortion. Police said Waheedullah and Zamarud Shah, residents of Mohmand Agency, were arrested while their leader Abdullah, a resident of Regi and a prominent militant and kidnapper, managed to flee. Two pistols and hand grenades were also seized from the arrested men. In Wahid Garhi Khazana, the bomb disposal unit defused a one-kilogramme explosive device planted near the house of Qari Ziaul Haq Sunday night. Police said extortionists were demanding Rs10 million from Haq and had planted a bomb near his residence in order to scare him.
