The K-P excise and taxation department has fixed a month’s time for the completion of vehicle registration requests, issuance of documents and number plates.
An official requesting anonymity said the department has seen a major fall in revenue over the years. New vehicles hit the roads of K-P every day but most car owners prefer registering them in other areas of the country. “Luxury car owners head to Islamabad because the registration process there is more fluid,” he said, adding the annual registration count in K-P ranges from 70,000 to 80,000 vehicles. “If we reduce the turnaround time, the number will hover around 100,000,” he maintained.
