In the continued crackdown against suspected terrorists and Afghan nationals staying illegally in Pakistan, Kohat police arrested around 200 people from refugee camps on the outskirts of the city.
About 110 of those taken into custody were Afghans; a majority of them lacked Proof of Registration (PoR) cards and other documents.
Kohat DPO Suhaib Ashraf told media the police raided Afghan refugee camps in Jangalkhel and Ghamkol Sharif around midnight on Monday. He added arms and ammunition were also recovered from the possession of some of the detained men.
The DPO said a number of suspects were being interrogated to ascertain whether they have links with militant groups. Afghan nationals lacking POR and other documents to validate their stay in
the country were booked under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act and may be deported to Afghanistan if ordered by a court.
