Sedition case registered against Geelani, Roy

Geelani, Roy among others accused of giving anti-India speeches at a convention on Kashmir.

Following a court order, the Delhi Police registered a case of sedition against Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, writer Arundhati Roy, revolutionary poet Varavara Rao and several others.

They have been accused of giving anti-India speeches at a convention on Kashmir.

The case has been registered at Tilak Marg police station under sections pertaining to sedition, promoting enmity between different groups and performing acts considered prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony.

Other charges include insult intended to provoke breach of peace and statements conducing to public mischief.

With the registration of the case, the police initiated investigations into the matter.

Police officials obtained footage of the speeches made at the convention and will look into their examination in order to file a report in court by January 6.

Truth | 13 years ago | Reply Arundhati Roy is perfect example for how people can exploit freedom of speech for personal gain. There are lot of issue which she can take up and help people. But she knows she can not get the international fame and name if she takes up such issues. Instead she is taking up these unwanted issues. Its time for Arundhati Roy to realise and stop doing the worst politics, which even none of the corrupt politicians might have not tried to do.
