Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court will hear preliminary arguments on a petition on Thursday (today) seeking parliamentary disqualification of Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal for holding the additional office of acting governor.

Advocate Munir Ahmad filed the application in his already pending petition challenging Iqbal’s appointment as acting governor.

The applicant’s counsel Azhar Siddique said that Iqbal was appointed acting governor on January 30 in an unprecedented move. He said after assuming the office of acting governor, Iqbal should have been disqualified as a member of provincial assembly.

He said by assuming the office of governor, Iqbal had become an employee of the government and could not be a member of the provincial assembly.
