Terror averted: Bomb plot in Oregon thwarted

US law enforcement agencies thwarted an attempt to blow up a car bomb at an annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

SAN FRANCISCO: US law enforcement agencies thwarted an attempt to blow up a car bomb at an annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, Oregon, and arrested the suspected bomber, officials said on Saturday.

He was identified as 19-year-old Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a naturalised US citizen of Somali descent. Mohamud was arrested after he attempted to remotely detonate what he believed to be an explosives-laden van that was parked near the tree lighting ceremony in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square, officials said. But the device was in fact a fake supplied by the FBI.

According to court documents, Mohamud was in email contact with an accomplice overseas located in northern Pakistan. They discussed the possibility of Mohamud traveling to Pakistan to engage in jihad.

All those failed attempts were just their to make a fool around US citizens and people across the world that US is still under terror threat and at war with terrorists, which will in turn allow US to formulate their policies and act accordingly to secure their so called national interests. I am definately sure that all those failed attempts in the form of Faisal Shahzad and the one mentioned above were all planned and masterminded by CIA, FBI, US Think Tanks officals. And you never know that the convicted ones are enjoying their life at fullest under the secret umbrella of US.

Someone | 13 years ago | Reply Just some more propaganda to put Pakistan in the limelight. Out of all the places, including Afghanistan, why is 'northern Pakistan' always targeted? Afghanistan is Taliban-infested too; oh wait, not nay more, the US just completed a 'succesful' war over there.
