KARACHI: As the government reverts to a six-day work week, several schools across the city also plan to hold classes on Saturday (today). Others, however, are busy with examinations and will resume regular classes from next Saturday.

“About 55 per cent of private schools will be back in operation on Saturday, but about 40 per cent just call in their teaching staff to prepare weekly and monthly planners. The students are given the entire weekend off,” explained Syed Khalid Shah, chairman of the private schools management association of Sindh.

Among private schools whose staff plans to work this Saturday are Beaconhouse School System (O’ and A’ Levels), The City School (O’ and A’ Levels). St Michael’s Convent School will be conducting examinations for some classes and will commence regular school from next Saturday.

“Teachers and some students will come in for their planners and exams, while O’ and A’ Level students will begin regular classes from the following Saturday,” said Maria Iqbal, an O’ Levels teacher at the school. For its part, Foundation Public School will continue with the regular Saturday A’ Level classes as it has been doing in the last few months. Meanwhile, DHA O’ and A’ Level school as well as Defence College for Women will be closed this Saturday. They remain uncertain whether or not they would open next week.
