KARACHI:

Former CEO of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Khalid Rahman has been appointed as the managing director of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the gas utility announced on Tuesday.

His appointment, made by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, comes at a time when the government is under increasing pressure to appoint permanent heads at key state-run organisations, many of them in the energy sector.

Rahman, who was unceremoniously removed from PPL in 2011 when the PPP government reshuffled top officials at major organisations, has replaced SSGC’s career officer Shoaib Warsi.

Rahman’s professional experience spans over 35 years in senior management positions in oil and gas and banking industries and the accounting profession, said SSGC.

He worked in PPL for around 20 years in various senior management positions including Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary.
