The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) floated several suggestions on Thursday to rid the nation of terror.
The party exhorted the government to quickly revamp the security system to ensure that counterterrorism efforts were not rendered ineffective. PAT Central President Raheeq Ahmed Abbasi chaired a meeting in this regard. The suggestions include: making the army responsible for training and recruiting policemen, the beefing up of security at educational institutes and their walls to be fortified, checkpoints to be established at district boundaries, the patrolling system to be revamped, an increase in the number of policemen, funds allocated for the Yellow Cab, the Laptop and the Aashiana Housing Schemes should be immediately diverted to the police to enable the purchase of latest vehicles and finance the upgrade of weapons, the funds should be given to the department for two years, police should nab thousands of proclaimed offenders as part of the war on terrorism and a separate force should be raised to deal with them, criminals among policemen should be given exemplary punishment and should be relieved of their duties, discipline should be maintained in the force along the lines of the army, transfers, postings and recruitment in the department should be solely based on merit and be free of political interference, criminals should be swiftly punished according to law and no one should be allowed to influence proceedings in this regard, the services of retired judges and noted lawyers should be used to facilitate the realisation of this objective, elections to local bodies should be held immediately, committees should be constituted at the union council level to keep track of suspicious elements in these areas, the holding of elections to local bodies is a constitutional requirement that would maintain order and curb terrorism, chief ministers should avoid meeting police officials needlessly to enable them to spend more time in the field and at their offices, all provincial assemblies and the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly to immediately convene sessions to pass resolutions condemning terrorism and declaring their support for the war on terrorism.
Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur was also present on the occasion.

PAT breaks laws and acts above the law and they want government to act to strengthen laws? You can't promote mob rule and then call for laws at same time! Qadri acted like he was some special VIP when he landed in Pakistan from North America and he failed in his overthrow attempt. He is similar to TTP in that he doesn't recognize rights of government. Qadri needs to be charged for encouraging brainwashed people to attack police in Model Town incident. Those murders should also be taken to military court and Mullah Qadri should be charged too!
