Awami National Party (ANP) provincial secretary information Sardar Hussain Babak said confidence between Pakistan and Afghanistan is vital for eliminating militancy that has engulfed the region.
Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, the former K-P minister for education said the commitment of security forces towards the cause and political backing indicate there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“With everyone on the same page, half the war is won,” said Babak, adding his party has been crying foul over the issue for years and several ANP frontmen have laid down their lives for the cause. “I am happy to see our opponents accept that it is our war,” he added.
Babak said had other religious and political parties taken notice of the issue earlier, the brazen Army Public School attack would never have occurred.
He termed the incident an immediate trigger that brought Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif on the same page, which according to Babak is a good omen for the country’s future.
“Why did the provincial government not summon a K-P Assembly session after the attack?” he questioned, adding the PTI-led government should have formed an enquiry committee rather than a technical committee. He said the government has tried to evade responsibility and instead put the onus on the bureaucracy.
Babak said previously towed foreign policies should be shunned and cordial relations should be established with neighbouring countries.
He said the war on terror has become a regional phenomenon and can only be dealt through collective efforts.
