By the time these lines reach you, I am sure you would have read a host of pieces on the cruelty and barbarity of the Peshawar School massacre. Let me then express my heartfelt sorrow and move on to a byproduct of the sad episode. The tragedy occurred on December 16, the anniversary of the secession of East Pakistan in which India had contributed generously. It was natural that someone would mention India on one of our talk shows, even if in passing. Distraught Pakistanis have always heard rumours that India, through the Karzai government, might have befriended the TTP.
Then, out of the blue came Narendra Modi’s condemnation of the attacks and his decision to observe a two-minute silence in the Indian parliament and in schools in solidarity with the victims. Even a hardened Modi-hater like me was moved. Yet if we were expecting to witness a change of heart in India, we were sadly mistaken. Within no time, Indian channels started interviewing Pakistani experts on telephone and every anchor would so callously trying to tell us that this is some sort of karma for harbouring the likes of Hafiz Saeed. One talk show was titled “Bad Taliban, Good Hafiz Saeed?” Pray, what was his connection with the Peshawar tragedy? Nothing. Just the old Indian attention-seeking tactic. It has to be the ultimate victim of terror. Secular India now regularly projects its Muslim population as a potential radical threat to grab international attention. Not that it is any of my business.
Subsequently, the appearance of Hafiz Saeed on national television, some rude comments about India and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi’s release on bail, were to prove godsend for India’s Pakistan bashing industry. Now it was as if the innocent little angels were not butchered in Peshawar but in India. Since then, the Indian media is acting as if an attack on it is imminent. Sorry to disappoint the drama queens there, but nothing of the sort is to happen. Not that anyone cares what their rabid media thinks but because Islamabad had promised to some of its closest allies that it will not let anything of the sort happen in the aftermath of Mumbai and since then, has walked the talk.
Keen as India is to remind us that we have a Muslim terrorist problem, it has never tried to search its own soul. If Pakistan is a security state today, it is because since its very inception, India has exerted tremendous pressure on the nascent country through its soft power. Guess why was Gandhiji killed? Because he had protested against the Indian government’s decision to deprive the newborn country of its due cash balance. Indian rulers and important ministers continuously kept predicting our premature demise. Indian actors have accepted some of the worst roles in foreign films depicting Pakistanis. It is not about the four open wars that the two countries fought. It is about a single indivisible cold war that India has fought against my poor country and transformed us into the great regional tragedy.
Ever wonder why Pakistanis think India might have a hand in terrorism within Pakistan? It’s new national security adviser Ajit Doval’s video is online in which he confesses of spending seven years as undercover agent in Pakistan as a Muslim shrine devotee.. Who knows how many others are here doing what?
I don’t know what this inferiority-superiority complex thing is that India keeps channelling. Perhaps, suppressed hatred of centuries spent under Muslim rule. But it has made our lives hell. India says Pakistan has a Muslim terror problem. We sure do. Terrorists just killed 132 of our children. India says it has a Muslim terror problem of its own. What it doesn’t see is that its actual problem is the Hindu terror/extremist terror problem. Why do you think Pakistan parted its ways with India? Hindu-Muslim riots there have cost 10,000 lives since 1950. Pakistan’s fault? How do you think Modi rose to power? Until India doesn’t confront this menace, its secularism will remain a sham and it won’t be the hegemon it wants to be. It has subconsciously chosen to remain a petty country not a regional power. Otherwise sirs, stop worrying about us and move on.

The revulsion to muslim identity in general has become embedded in their psyche. This is evident in the elections in that country.

It is frankly denial from the other side when they refuse to accept the fact that muslim bashing and ultimately Pakistan bashing now is india's collective national psyche.

My earlier comments didn't make the cut, perhaps the moderators are in agreement with the views of the writer and so rebuttals based on facts and logic are censored.
Mr. Pitafi injects red herrings in his narrative, namely blaming India and Afghanistan for all that ails Pakistan and for good measure he throws in the "thousand year Muslim rule" in the subcontinent to really confuse issues. Muslim rulers of any import were Afghans, Iranians and Uzbeks not locals, so please stop deluding yourself about the whole Muslim rule thing.
Parvez Hoodhboy's column in Dawn "It wasn't the final atrocity" does not deflect blame on to the Indians, Afghans and Martians and bravely assumes responsibility for everything that is wrong with Pakistan.

Agreed with the author with regards to Indian media. Spot on! And also agreed with the fact that terrorism within Pakistan and across our borders is more than just a breed of indigenous religious extremism. It is an intelligence warfare, of which Indian agencies are a component and essentially adverse to Pakistan, sheltered by the diplomatic enclaves of India across the Durand Line. The Taliban are now functioning as franchises; trained mercenaries for hiring. Its a power game with tilting balance and has made the entire region volatile, and there is no denying the role of Indian agencies in making it so. Similar accusations always mount from across the border should even a fly lose its wings. It would appear that India are Pakistan are each others headache to be true! And it has been so since inception 1947. If its Hafiz Saeed on this side, its the menacing Bal Thackery across the border. Nevertheless, the gestures of mutual respect and understanding shown by the people on both sides of the border are admirable and moving. A "PakwithIndia" for every "IndiawithPakistan" will go a long way in bridging the gap, removing misunderstandings and bringing the two nations together, before they can actually sit down and start the long and arduous procedure of building each others confidence and simply moving on with peaceful coexistence. By the same token, wouldn't the same theory - 1,000 years of Muslim rule - explain (a) the need in some Indian Muslims for Partition; (b) mistreatment of religious minorities; and (c) need to rewrite cultural, social, military, political, and even genetic (e.g. Arab origins) history of Pakistan, a land that did not exist before 1947. And what happened to Muslims after the British vanquished Muslim rule forever in India? And If inferiority complex means living peacefully and tolerantly among fellow human beings (unless you can provide evidence that Muslims are descended from different species), then isn't that a better choice than what a state of constant war and intolerance that "superiority complex" provides as a choice (including murder of 140 children)? If the writer is trying to suggest that the tragedy of 132 children killed is in any way more sanctimonious than the 164 innocent citizens killed in Mumbai, I wish to disagree. Both are dreadful events that no human being can condone. Every human life is precious. Just a few weeks before your PM's adviser said that Pakistan will not go against militants who do not harm Pakistan. In the book, Pakistan a Hard Country, the author Anatol Lieven tells us that according to Indian PM whose name I cannot recall, told him that India is more threatened by Maoists in India than by Pakistan! The author says that one third of India is controlled by Maoists. What more can one say.

Wow. A world class migrain calling others a headache. Now this is what I call a height of delusion. As for 1000 years of muslim rule, well one thing is certain that people who ruled, died a long time back, the last one of them died in a dingy room in rangoon but the ones who were ruled by them , are now found in area called Pakistan. These are the people who had to faced the wrath of invaders from persia , turks, mongols, afghans, greeks and what not.There ancestors were killed, looted, enslaved in mass. I think you are angry because of what just happened in Peshawar but I think its high time to stop looking for boogeyman in form of India and do something about your country. By the way, if India is involved in these terrorist activities in Pakistan while GoP and army of Pakistan is not able to produce a single evidence against it, then I must say you peope have invested in wrong agencies since RAW is outwitting them quiet convincingly.

India is not a secular country. India was partition and defined as non Muslim state. Gandhi was not killed because of that. Pakistan has become a security state because of obsession of Kashmir. India has never exerted any pressure on Pakistan or Indian Muslims. How Pakistan is poor who got the resources for 25% of Muslims population but received only 15% of Muslims? Pakistan has far more resouces than India. If India hate Muslims then how come it never force them to move to Pakistan unlike Pakistan forced its non Muslims. Why Pakistan nob Muslims wiped out but Indian Muslims population increased? Muslims appeasement is not secularism. After partition also you are not happy and blaming india for the mess. Did you thank India also when Pakistan was growing faster than India, for India never objecting to nuclear Pakistan? Why India should be a secular when Pakistan itself is non secular state?

Buddy, you need to introspect seriously.It is time that country needs to analyse why this happened.Are we part of problem ? You will find answer that yes you are because you are not accepting the problem itself which is "there is only one type terrorist that is bad terrorist" The day you accept it Pakistan will come out winning this battle.With the bad intention to harm India or Iran or Afganishtan using terrorist, good things will not happen to Pak people.
