Khan had been kidnapped at gunpoint by six men on the Motorway near Sial Morr, Sargodha Interchange on June 1, 2014.
Governor House sources told The Express Tribune on Monday that Khan had been recovered from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and had been shifted to Landi Kotal.
From Landi Kotal, Khan will be shifted to Peshawar and then will be flown to Lahore.
“Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi lauded the success of the security forces in the shape of safe recovery of the kidnapped MPA and directed them to shift him to Peshawar,” said a Governer House official.
Khan had been abducted along with his wife Zeba. They were taken in two separate cars before she was dropped off somewhere near Rawalpindi at about 2:30 am and was told to arrange Rs50 million within three days.
Zeba had later told the police that the kidnappers, in two cars, hit their car in a bid to stop them and then forced them into one of their vehicles at gunpoint.
The MPA’s brother, Wakeel Ahmed Khan, said the MPA had no enemies and the main reason for kidnapping seemed to be ransom.
However, security officials did not say whether any ransom was paid to secure the MPA's release.
Khan was elected to the Punjab Assembly from PP-174 (Nankana Sahib) and was part of the Public Accounts Committee-II in the provincial assembly.
