TIMERGARA: 27-year-old pacer Imran Khan has returned home after a triumphant debut in UAE with the national cricket team.

Khan hails from Manyal village, Lower Dir. A large number of locals including political figures and lawmakers were present to welcome him at Shikolai, Timergara on Thursday. Just a few months back, Khan had inspired Peshawar Panthers to bag the national T20 cup which paved the way for his international debut.

During the UAE tour, Khan played an integral part in Pakistan’s bowling attack and was at the heart of the national team’s exploits against Australia and New Zealand.

Talking to the media, Khan said that he is honoured to represent his people in the national side and expressed the desire to prove his mettle in the one-day and T20 formats of the game as well.

The Peshawar Panthers ace said playing against top-tier test sides in the unwelcoming bowling conditions of the UAE brought the better out of him. Khan was particularly lauded for his unplayable spells during the Abu Dhabi test against Australia, taking down the likes of stalwarts like Michael Clarke.

Khan, who idolises his namesake, said that the support of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis was vital in improving his skill and approach.

He said the youth of Dir have a lot of potential when it comes to sports, but lack of facilities, training grounds and academies in the district helps little in nurturing their talent.

Elders of the area said Khan has proved that the inhabitants of the mountains have a knack for sports and that the area will continue to produce competent sportsmen if adequate facilities are provided.
