Custodial killing: 3 cops arrested for killing man

DPO says during preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that they had thrown Shahid’s body in Bhiki canal

FAISALABAD: Toba Tek Singh police arrested three policemen from Mandi Bahauddin on Tuesday, who are accused of killing a man in custody. Talking to reporters, Toba Tek Singh District Police Officer (DPO) Shehzad Asif said that Muhammad Shahid, resident of Muhammadpura, was arrested by Sub Inspector Saeed Akhtar, Constables Muhammad Sajjad and Tasawwar Abbas of city police on charges of murdering his wife, Nasreen Bibi. “Akhtar was also investigating the murder case. Shahid later died due to police torture. After Shahid’s death, the three policemen disappeared from duty. Relatives of Shahid staged protests,” the District Police Officer said. He said that police teams were formed to arrest the three. “During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that they had thrown Shahid’s body in the Bhiki canal,” he said. “A police team has been formed to look for Shahid’s body,” the DPO said.
