Hundreds protest against Dera Ghazi Khan BISE officials

Hundreds of students protested against the Dera Ghazi Khan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) on Saturday over mismanagement at a laptop distribution ceremony.

The students had been invited from various areas of the Dera Ghazi Khan division to be given laptops at the BISE building. The students said that the authorities had not made proper arrangements at the building. Muhammad Hammad Bashir, one of the protesting students, told The Express Tribune that he had been waiting to get the laptop since morning. “They directed us to be at the building at 8am sharp. Now it is 5pm and I have yet to get my laptop,” he said. Tariq Ahmad, another student, said that there was no proper seating arrangement for the students. “There is no drinking water, no seats and no food at the canteen,” he said. Khushbakht, another student, said: “Some students, who apparently knew board officials were called and given the laptops. Many like me who came from far-flung areas are still waiting for the laptops,” she said.

Some of the students chanted slogans against the authorities. Others appealed to the chief minister to take notice of the mismanagement.

Talking to The Express Tribune, BISE Chairman Dr Anwar said that there was no mismanagement. “There were a large number of students this time and it was difficult to control them,” he said.
