FAISALABAD:

Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar said on Saturday the government was taking steps for the rehabilitation of blind people. He was addressing a ceremony to hand over possession of some commercial properties to the Al-Minar Adult Blind Centre, operating under the aegis of Pakistan Alliance of the Blind.

The property was donated by Associated Press of Pakistan Director Waqar Chaudhary.

The governor lauded the services of Pakistan Alliance of the Blind and said the organisation was taking commendable steps for the blind.   He said the blind were an integral part of the society. “It is our duty to help disabled people integrate in the society,” he said. The governor said more philanthropists should come forward and donate generously in this regard. Pakistan Alliance of the Blind General Secretary Muhammad Masood said his organisation had been working for rehabilitation of the blind since 1967.

He said it was arranging educational and vocational training opportunities for them, including electrical work for men and home economics courses for women.

He said his organisation was running various institutions in Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bahawalnagar and Bakkar where the blind were offered free transport facilities.

He said the alliance did not have a stable source of funding and urged philanthropists to donate to blind centres generously.
