PESHAWAR: The imprisoned chief of Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM) Maulana Sufi Mohammad is now two cases short of freedom. The firebrand cleric who had tried to impose Sharia by force in Swat and Malakand and sent volunteers to fight against the US forces in Afghanistan in 2001, has been acquitted in 10 out of 12 cases of murder, treason, arson and sedition filed against him. An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday acquitted Sufi and his 30 accomplices in two cases of murder and sedition that date back to 1995. The proceedings were held inside the Central Prison Peshawar where Sufi was incarcerated since 2009. The court cleared Sufi of charges of attack on a police station and an army convoy and the murder of a policeman and a soldier in Khwaza Khela, Swat in 1995.
