KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court on Friday restrained the authorities from allotting 2,500 houses built by the Turkish government to families who were not affected by the super-flood of 2010.

The judges also ordered the Thatta district commissioner to submit a list of 'genuine' flood survivors by December 11.

The residents of Thatta, whose properties were devastated by the catastrophic flood, had approached the court with a petition against the unfair allotment of houses built by the Turkish government for the survivors.

They told the judges that the provincial government had designated 300 acres for a model village project with new houses, and claimed that former Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Sadiq Ali Memon had accommodated his supporters on the land to gain votes even though they did not belong to the affected areas.

The bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, ordered the Thatta commissioner not to allot any houses to those unaffected until December 11.
