Two Afghan refugees open fire on him on GT Road near Baldher

HARIPUR: A police constable was shot dead while his friend was critically injured when two Afghan refugees opened fire on them on GT Road near Baldher on Friday evening. Police said Elite Force constable Naveed Hussain was en route to Serae Saleh on his motorbike with a friend Majid. On the way, he received information about some Afghan refugees transporting illegal arms. He intercepted the vehicle and cautioned the driver to stop. However, the passengers, later identified as Ziarat Gul and Noor Khan, opened fire on the policeman and his friend and managed to escape. The injured men were rushed to Women and Children Hospital from where they were referred to Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad. Naveed succumbed to his injuries during the early hours of Saturday while Majid is still undergoing treatment, police added. Investigation in the incident in under way.
