Travel restricted for Pakistanis without polio certificate, says IHC

GENEVA: In a meeting held by the International Health Committee, restrictions have been placed on Pakistani's travelling abroad without a polio certificate, Express News reported Saturday.

The committee had declared Pakistan to be a nation responsible for spreading the polio virus across the globe.

Between July and now, three cases of polio have arisen in Afghanistan, for which the committee attributes blame to Pakistan.

In attempts to eradicate polio in six months, the International Health Committee have come down hard on Pakistan and ordered that no Pakistani could travel abroad without a polio certificate.

A polio certificate would mean that the traveler had received polio drops and is safe to travel.

With strict measures being enforced, the committee had said that travelers who were not in possession of the polio certificate would not be allowed to travel under any circumstances and would go through a screening process.

Yet again, lack of security has led to the delay in polio teams carrying out their duties.

A three-day anti-polio campaign was to commence today in Baldia and Bin Qasim, however, lack of security and provisions for the polio teams led to a delay in the campaign.

According to Director Health Services, Dr Zafar Ijaz, in the three-day campaign, over 200,000 children were to be administered polio drops.

Over 600 mobile polio teams had been deployed to administer the drops in 11 union councils.

New polio cases are emerging on a daily basis with little being done to bring an end to the endemic.

This is how personal choices of some ignorant parents becomes national problems. Its duty of every citizen to challenge such ignorance, otherwise prepare for collective punishment.
