Addressing woes: APTMA chief off to meet minister

LAHORE: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association Chairman SM Tanveer is heading to Islamabad to meet Federal Minister for Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afridi and other concerned officials today, according to a press release. Tanveer said the looming threat of gas disconnection during winter has brought the Punjab-based textile industry to a grinding halt and will be worse in case the government fails to correct the situation. He said exports have recently witnessed unprecedented drop during the last seven months and is further likely to lose if prudent decisions are not made. He said 70% of the textile industry is located in the Punjab where it is exposed to unprecedented gas and electricity supply cuts. According to him, presently, the industry is unable to lift cotton due to energy curtailment and capacity closure.
