ISLAMABAD: The chairman of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project said on Thursday that construction work on the multi-billion mass transit scheme would hopefully be completed by January 30 next year. Hanif Abbasi was quoted as saying that the project, initiated on March 23 this year, is being executed at a cost of Rs44 billion and buses would start plying on the route from January 30. He said the service would facilitate around 160,000 commuters shuttling between the twin cities daily for a nominal fare of Rs20 per passenger. Abbasi said construction companies carrying out work at their respective sites despite difficulties being faced due to the sit-ins of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek. “The sit-ins caused a month’s delay in the completion of the project, which was planned to be inaugurated ahead of schedule in December this year,” he observed.
