Khan, along with other PTI parliamentarians had submitted his resignation to the Speaker's chamber on August 22. But on Thursday, Khan sent a letter to the Speaker asking him not to accept his resignation.
The Speaker subsequently accepted his application and rejected Khan’s resignation.
Sources told Express Tribune that Khan has not withdrawn his resignation, instead he had informed the Speaker about being forced to resign from his NA seat by his party.
“The letter of Khan has substantiated Speaker's stance for individual verification of every single resignation of the PTI,” sources said.
On October 29, some 25 PTI members had reached the Parliament House for verifying their resignations before the Speaker. But the PTI lawmakers insisted on en masse verification while the Speaker insisted on individual verification.
The impasse had prompted the Speaker to refer the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to resolve the issue.
On that day, Khan, along with Saleemur Rehman, Qaiser Jamal, Shahryar Khan Afridi, as well as the PTI Chairman Imran Khan were absent.
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was present in the assembly, had clarified that the absence of a few lawmakers did not reflect their opposition to the party's decision.
Khan had been elected into the lower House from NA-6 Nowshera II with 54,266 votes and in the process defeating candidates of both the Awami National Party (ANP) and ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in 2013 general elections.
Khan's letter proof of horse trading
Reacting to Khan's letter, the PTI claimed that Thursday’s development lent credence to their apprehensions of ‘horse trading’.
“We had apprehensions that the government would offer money and try to buy our members and it has happened today with Khan’s letter to the Speaker,” said Dr Arfi Alvi.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Alvi said that “this was the very reason we opposed the individual verification of resignations.”
When asked about PTI’s future course of action, Alvi said that Khan was the fourth party leader to have opposed the party decision and the party would inform the Speaker and the ECP that Khan no longer belongs to the party.
However, the decision to withdraw Khan’s party membership is yet to be made official.
Article 63A of the Constitution has laid down the criterion regarding disqualification of the parliamentary party membership on grounds of defection reads as:
“(1) If a member of a Parliamentary Party composed of a single political party in a House-(a) resigns from membership of his political party or joins another Parliamentary Party, or (b) votes or abstains from voting in the House contrary to any direction issued by the Parliamentary Party to which he belongs, in relations to- (i) election of the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister, or (ii) a vote of confidence or a vote of no-confidence, or (iii) a Money Bill or a Constitution (Amendment) Bill, he may be declared in writing by the Party Head to have defected from the political party, and the Head of the Parliamentary Party may forward a copy of the declaration to the Presiding Officer, and shall similarly forward a copy thereof to the member concerned: Provided that before making the declaration, the Party Head shall provide such member with an opportunity to show cause as to why such declaration may not be made against him.”

@PTI Workers United: Correction here PTI is not in Parliment.Yes of course he must be announced disqualified irrespective who the person is.
@Aimal: I belong to the same district too and he will thrash any PTI candidate there. Everybody loves him for speaking the truth!
So why didnt the speaker call the member to his chambers to verify if the subseuent letter was also written under pressure
"PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was present in the assembly, had clarified that the absence of a few lawmakers did not reflect their opposition to the party’s decision." Are you saying that the PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi lied in Parliment??? Does that mean he is disqualified? Does this mean he is not Sadiq and Ameen? Supreme court must rule on this
@Aimal: So,everybody who turns against PTI is corrupt and nothing.PTI is master of blame game. Now I understand why PTI doesn't let it's MNA's to go to Speaker for the verification of their resignation individually, becoz PTI is afraid of it will lose many MNA's.HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Is it NAYA PAKISTAN?
IK's logic of resigning from NA and not PA is contradictory and those MNAs of KPK challenging this reasoning are right. If IK;s intent in not resigning from PA is hanging on to the kursi/govt in KPK, why should his MNAs who want to cling to their own kursi be criticized. They are not doing anything illegal also. In fact IK is doing an illegal act by forcing the MNAs to resign.
Basically a nobody who was made a somebody by PTI now looking to take advantage of the situation.
@peace Seriously you don't know about what the law is..speaker is doing right thing.
Only those people will leave Imran Khan who joined him for their own personal vested interests. Let them go as they will be nobody in the next elections. On principals PTI should not compromise and let every member know that if you leave the party, then get ready to face their voters for betraying the party. They should not forget what happened to veteran politician Jawed Hashmi.
@Usman Aziz
RoImranRoIt does not matter who left PTI because the cause is big and just so go ahead ppl r with u .......... Go Nawaz Go
While this drama continues is the parliment, whose at lost? PTI? PMLN?
No its the public, same old poltics. Whats different?
Despite the fact that i totally disagree with imrans strategy to resign, i feel that this MNA has shown his greed for power and thus should be kicked out of pti as soon as possible.
@Shaffi: It is funny that this propaganda is being floated here. There more laws than just the constitution! Welcome to reality!! I know it's something is incredibly intellectually challenging for you to understand but you must try my dear! :)
PTI should focus on improving basic life in KPK and prove its metal there before trying to grab power in other provinces and federation.
This dude will not get elected if they disqualify him...whats wrong with these duche bags who are only focused on their "kursi"
The clause of the constituation stated above clearly states that Mr. Khan has not violated the constitution and therefore if his party membership is terminated he would not be disqualified and hence no by-elections in NA-6
i belong to the same district. Believe me no body knew him before election and just because of PTI he got 56,000 vote......... If Hashmi couldn't damage IMRAN and Pti who is he????
So PTI is no different than other parties there is no democracy.. one man decisions are being forced on its members without taking them or their suggestions into account its sad that with all this that is out there they still have the audacity to claim that they are different from other parties.. @king you are one voter im sure he had thousands more
Per constitution, when a member tender resignation, resignation is effective immediately. Speaker is just floating the law. Cheers Peace
he was selected from nowshera because we voted for PTI,not because who he was.Not obeying party policies would mean he is no different to us from members other parties...disqualify him as a member and let's see who wins there to show if he or if PTI won there
If PTI believes that horse trading happened then why they choses such a candidate who was not good enough to become a horse.
