LAHORE:

There is an urgent need for a national government and reconciliation in the country, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri said on Wednesday.

He was speaking to several delegations in Canada. According to a statement issued by the central secretariat of the PAT, Qadri criticised the provincial government, calling it incompetent.

“The government is squandering the progress achieved by the army’s Operation Zarb-i-Azb,” he said.

Condemning the suicide attack at Wagah Border, he said the Punjab government had failed to maintain law and order. “As long as this government remains in power, blood will continue to flow on the roads and innocent people will continue to die,” he said.

He said that the government had failed at all fronts, including terrorism and rehabilitation of the economy. “The rulers have also failed to deal with internal and external threats and have no vision,” he said.

Qadri said that his party had made its share of sacrifices and was prepared to make more. “However, the people of the country must also decide and come out against the corrupt government. Otherwise, they will never get their rights. Our war against the corrupt and incompetent system will continue. The people must come out and use their vote against this system,” he said.

He praised PAT workers who had participated in the Inqilab March and the dharna (sit-in). “No other party can match the courage of the PAT workers,” he said.

He said that the PAT would take part in the next elections to change the system. “However, we do not want to be a part of the present corrupt system. The rulers do not act according to the constitution. If they abide by the first 40 articles of the Constitution, all the problems facing the country’s people will be resolved,” he said.
