Five-week death toll from drought in district reaches 37

Web Desk November 05, 2014

MITHI: The five-week death toll from drought in Tharparkar reached 37 after a two-year-old died of malnutrition at the Civil Hospital in Mithi, Express News reported on Wednesday.

The unrelenting drought spell, compounded by poverty, poor nutrition and lack of health facilities and awareness, continues to take its toll on the children of the district.

Around 80 children, admitted to Civil Hospital, are said to be in critical condition.

More than 200 children have died since May, this year alone with most deaths being attributed to the prevalent malnourishment in the desert region – which is experiencing its third year of drought.

@Amp:

I think & propose that people including Mr Taj Haider focal person for Thar of PPP including CM Sindh & you who thinks that media is just blowing the issue out of proportion, not going physically with media & see by yourself instead of just rejecting the news outright...prove media wrong.

Really sad but ET wrong reporting. These children did not die of malnutrition, they died of diseases. The health department needs to take notice
