KARACHI:

In an attempt to ensure safety of people ahead of Cyclone Nilofar, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has advised the provincial authorities to immediately evacuate families living near the coastal belt and in low-lying areas, including Sujawal, Thatta, Badin, Karachi South, Malir and Korangi.

During a high level meeting at PDMA’s office on Tuesday, it was decided that all vulnerable billboards should be removed by Tuesday night, asking the KMC and Cantonment Boards to ensure the removal.

Emergency has been imposed in all hospitals of the coastal districts while the district governments will update the PDMA officials about the situation on a daily basis.

“The SMS service will also be initiated,” said an official, adding that the service will start depending upon the situation.

He added that the provincial government will release at least Rs10 million to all district administrations as they could easily manage affairs.

Commissioner Hyderabad, deputy commissioner Thatta, Sajawal and Badin, representatives of Karachi Commissioner, Coast Guards, Maritime Security Agency, health department, rehabilitation and other departments attended the meeting and discussed the contingency plan.
