Diamer Bhasha Dam: China to support Pakistan in attracting investment

Finance minister meets executive vice president of the China Development Bank

BEIJING: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar met with Executive Vice President of China Development Bank (CDB) Zhao Xiaoyu in Beijing, during which the latter agreed to sponsor an awareness conference for prospective investors for the construction of the 4,500MW Diamer Bhasha Dam, Radio Pakistan reported.

Dar said there is potential in the country’s energy, power, mining, agriculture and infrastructure sectors, and the bank would reap further dividends if it teamed up to develop these potentials.

The finance minister mentioned that Pakistan’s policy regime in the power sector has proved to be fruitful.

Zhao Xiaoyu expressed appreciation for Pakistan's cooperation particularly in the investment sector.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor had opened up a wave of opportunities, and Pakistan was increasingly providing a good space to companies to establish their footprint.

Pakistan should have included Diamir Bhasha in Pak China Corridor agreement. But as it said, better late than never.
