The search for the suspects has been ongoing throughout the city since October 19 -- the day the robbery took place -- in which five kilos of gold and foreign currency worth Rs20 million were reportedly stolen from the Edhi centre located in the Mithadar area.
Police arrested a man named Rashid Mazhar who allegedly planned the robbery in its entirety. He was arrested in the Zaman Town area of Korangi.
Mazhar was previously a driver for the Edhi Centre having resigned from his position just nine months ago. Originally from Sahiwal, Mazhar came to Karachi in 2005 and started working for the Edhi centre in 2006.
Earlier this week, police had identified a man after they collected statements and cellphone details of around two dozen men and women serving and former staff members of the foundation.
Police will carry out questioning to determine the location of the further five suspects for whom the search is still ongoing.

Everybody knows who is responsible for most big crimes in Pakistan. It is an open secret that local parties have militant gangs and extract bhatta. In case bhatta is not given they would take it by force. Who is jealous of Edhi Sahib and does not want him to get the charity? After Hakeen Saeed God forbid it could be Edhi Sahib or his organization. Police should be handsomely rewarded for their achievement.
Please give them medal as they have exposed Edhi sahib and his scam.
@usman: According to other sources, the police recovered the stolen foreign currency; hence, I believe the suspect is NOT falsely accused.
He will turn out to be the innocent one eventually because of snail paced investigations.
we are strange people Quaid e Azam made to die en route in Ambulance, Hakim Saeed was shoot dead,Hazars being killed mercilessly and looting of Mr EDHI BHAI is nothing to feel ashamed off.We are everything but Neither we are good Muslim nor a good Pakistan.Test of Rangers and Police.
.....and due to insufficient evidence he will be released. All hail to our inept judicial system.
I think Edhi would let them go
what about the stolen foreign currency and 5 kg gold ?
Great work, Karachi Police!
We know our Police can apprehend the criminals everytime, only if they wish to or allowed to.
This incident was equally embarrassing for all citizens of Pakistan and the criminals should be behind bars, earlier the better.
Where's the money and gold ? Already dispersed to the ruling waderas ??
Hope it is a main accused and not falsely accused
