BAHAWALPUR:

District Police Officer (DPO) Sarfraz Falki said on Friday citizens, religious scholars and members of peace committees should cooperate with police to maintain order during the month of Muharram.

He was addressing a meeting of the District Peace Committee at Police Lines.

The DPO said foolproof security arrangements had been made for the month. Police officials would be deployed along Muharram processions, he said.

He directed police officials to monitor the routes of processions along with assistant commissioners and town municipal administration officials.

The DPO ordered action against wall-chalking and those publishing and distributing hate material. He asked police officials to hold meetings with members of the peace committee to review security arrangements.

Falki ordered that every participant be checked at entrances to imam bargahs and places holding majalis.

The DPO said stalls of milk and water along Muharram processions could be set up after police’s approval.
