After the fire: Helplines, banking services, internet suspended for many

LAHORE:

Much to the frustration of hundreds of thousands of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited subscribers the services affected by a fire at its cyber centre have yet to be restored.

The one-link banking system, phone landlines, EVO internet service, online transactions and almost all help lines remained suspended on the third day after the fire. The routers of a telecom company that were burned in the fire were unable to provide cell phone services to thousands of its consumers. Police and Rescue-1122 officials tried to shift their respective helplines to mobile phone networks but could only partially activate them. They said few calls were able to get through and there was a problem with the reception. Edhi, Railways, PIA inquiry, PTCL inquiry and most of the government departments’ phones too remained dysfunctional. Online transactions were suspended in several banks.
