Act of generosity: Seven-month-old’s eyesight restored

Doctors at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital have given back the sense of sight to seven-month-old Aamish, the only son of a labourer from Attock, Tanveer Akhtar. Aamish had severely injured his left eye when he accidently fell down on the ground. His father immediately took him to Attock city where doctors of a private clinic advised him to go to Rawalpindi for expert treatment.

The child was thoroughly examined by specialist consultant Dr Nusrat Sharif and diagnosed with a severe trauma in his left eye. Hailing from a poor family, Aamish’s father could not afford the surgical costs, and thus all expenses were borne by the hospital.

The child was successfully operated on by Dr Shama Khan, another child specialist. The news of his successful surgery brought relief to the stressed parents who burst into tears once the operation ended. “All praise is to Allah who sent these angels to restore my child’s vision. My child can now look forward to a bright future,” said Aamish’s mother after the operation.

Since its inception 23 years ago, four eye hospitals of the trust have treated over seven million patients and performed over half a million major and minor eye surgeries free of cost.
