KARACHI:

Sindh Police has decided to make new recruitments against the announced vacancies by utilising the National Testing Service (NTS) to ensure transparency and merit in the appointments. The department's SSU wing has recently completed the recruitment drive through the NTS.

This was revealed by Sindh IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali to a delegation of the National Management College on Sunday. The IGP said that women were being encouraged to apply for the vacancies, keeping in mind the Gender Responsive Police programme. More than 2,000 women will be inducted in the department," he said.

"Crime has considerably reduced in Sindh, especially over the last three months," he said. "The Sindh police has, in particular, focused against terrorism, target killings, kidnappings for ransom and extortion."

The IGP also shared details of the ongoing targeted operation. He said that that the figure of targeted killings had come down from over 2,342 to around 989 which showed significant reduction.

"Similarly, cases of extortion have fallen from 1,303 to 1,245 and cases of street crimes have also decreased from 2,196 to around 1,798," he added.

Jamali also informed the delegation that during the year 2014, the Sindh police had seized 517 kilogrammes of explosive material from the terrorists' possession, in addition to 23 bombs, 459 hand grenades, 16 RPG-7 rockets and 11 suicide jackets.

"Police also arrested 7,435 criminals during the current year," he added.
