MQM ends sit-ins in Karachi after detained workers released

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced early on Friday that they were ending their sit-ins after some of their workers were released by law enfrocing agencies, Express News reported.

Addressing media, MQM leader and Provincial Minister Faisal Sabzwari said the decision to end the sit-in was taken after authorities announced immediate release of eight out of the 15 believed to have been detained by the Rangers.

Sabzwari added that they are striving for the release of other MQM workers still detained by authorities.

“We have always supported the targeted operation against miscreant elements, but it is our wish that incidents like that of yesterday should not be repeated against any genuine political party or their workers.”

On Wednesday evening, Rangers had arrested as many as 23 MQM workers after raiding a party office on Abul Hasan Ispahani road. Following the raid, MQM had started their sit-ins all over Karachi.

On Thursday, the party continued its protests at various locations in the city.

@Mehran Soomroo: Your name tells the love and affection you would have for MQM :-) Sindh (or Sindhis) can't continue ruling Urban Sindh with their feudal and corrupt-to-the-core mindset.

@ET moderator seems to allow only Pro-MQM messages, while rejecting all others. I dont think they will allow following comments. Protest Vigil.

@Aysha M: No one is above law, using Mohajir card to save the skins of militants is no service to nation. Altaf Bhai himself said that within his party there are some criminal elements, it is all reported and recorded, and if Rangers and Sindh Police takes action, MQM should support rather than crying and using blackmailing tactics. We all want peace and Karachi free from all kind of militants. People of Sindh support this operation,Lets all unite and support Rangers and Sindh Police in this operation against criminals.
