MQM chief, while speaking to Governor Punjab who visited the party;s secretariat in London Tuesday, urged all parties involved in the Islamabad impasse to step back from their hardened stance. Altaf called for a technocratic government to be set up in the country for two years during which those involved in rigging would be punished.
“The technocratic government should be ruthless in its accountability of all people”, he said.
However, the MQM leader added that it was not necessary to make the setup straight away. “The setup can be formed after the tenure of the current government ends”, he proposed.
He further said that Pakistan is passing through a critical phase, “on one hand we have flood affectees on the other we have Operation Zarb-e-Azb and the IDPs who need our help”.
Altaf reiterated that his party is not participating in the Islamabad sit-ins, but, his heart was with those people who were contained in Model town by the government for days. He lamented that MQM was not allowed to take food to them. Though, he thanked God that the government did not take any step that could create a situation of bloodshed.
On the occasion, Sarwar also repeated Altaf demand for the sit-in to end, adding that both parties should work for a way in which this matter can be resolved politically.
“All political parties should resolve their matters and act for the relief of the IDPs,” Sarwar said.
Altaf recommended that Sarwar play the the role of mediator between both the protesting parties and the government.
“A person will be needed to act as the mediator and bring a solution to the problem, like Chaudhary Sarwar. His capabilities can be used for this cause”, he hinted.

For the first ever I am going to agree 100% with Altaf Hussain on his this stance because PML-N's democratic setup is totally based on corruption and rigging and Nawaz Sharif theft the majority of people's choice and mandate to become Prime Minister......
Thankyou Altaf Bhai for sending your workers in my rally. I didn't say a single word about you during the whole speech.
It is really not understood, as to why media is giving much attention to the statements issued by a British Citizen, and if supposedly accepted as a head of a political party, he only leads a party, whose influence and mandate is relegated to only one and half cities of Sindh Province (Karachi, and Hyderabad). So, he is not entitled for wider publicity in media for having been chief of a party limited to only two cities of Pakistan. The media should rethink on giving space and attention to individuals playing with the politics of Pakistan.
I hope Chaudhry Sarwar saheb is not a conventional politician and speaks the truth without considering political dispensation. Chaudhry Sarwar saheb only speaking the truth is not sufficient, please stand with truth and leave the fake people.
Snakes!
Pakistan very badly needs to come to grips with its maladies and maladministration of their country. The sooner the better. Look at the Middle East, up in flames, death, and destruction. Do we also want to end up like them. Altaf's party did do a lot of good work, commendable work, and must be operational in areas where it has a majority vote. Now in its seventh year of PPP rule, look at the condition of Karachi, Hyderabad, and interior Sindh. Just look at the pitiable state of Thar. IF THIS IS DEMOCRACY, I DON'T WANT IT. Salams
@Navaid: So how about you come and get it?You'l forever stay a Mohajir because thats what you want to be.Ever heard Musharaff calling himself a mohajir? more provinces should be made but none on the basis of linguistics and ethnicities. We'll strongly oppose the creatjon of new provinces on tha basis other than asminstrative, with or without the mohajirs.
@Navaid: No, we don't want our own country. Province would be a good idea but not on linguistic basis.
PTI and PAT cannot do anything without MQM. No party in Pakistan has the street power and firepower like the MQM does, and they hold the keys to Pakistan's economic survival.
I'm not a MQM voter but I do accept Altaf Hussain's popularity.
@Navaid: Navaid Bhai, I am too Mohajir, I want province too but yaar please don't talk about separate country, our ancestors made this country. Please yaar .....
"I swear by my full belly that I'll not tell the truth, so don't help me God!"
Two confused men conferring, who'd like to thing they're heroes.
Like the former technocratic government over 8 years with Mush did any good or many before that under military rulers. Stupid thing! This is a system and it needs to move on with people making choices and reassess at next elections. No technocrats can do any thing right for the system.
What does Altaf Bhai hold that all leaders ask his opinion, follow it, listened to it seriously, apply it and then revisit him for more? Sometimes it looks like there is more to his ideas & action plans than politics and cunningness. I am afraid, how will we survive without him.
Things are going up and down for the Government but are surely, though intermittently getting very unsettling. NS still has some time to come back with a successful strategy but he will have to be very imaginative, which is not the hallmark of his personality. A clever political strategy would be to call elections within a year, while he still has a substantial vote bank. Since he cannot become PM for the third time, let him get himself elected as President. The post won’t matter if his party again gets a majority he can control govt. anyway. His party needs some astute political strategists and tacticians and the loss of Hashmi was a great loss. Find politically savvy ministers, who are in short supply in the Party. Good luck. NS should read the Prince by Machiavelli or get lessons from Zardari.
Altaf ! Altaf ! Altaf !
Altaf Bhai, Mohajirs want separate province, and if not, we will seek for an independent Mohajir Republic with or without the MQM.
Altaf Hussain sahab you should come back to your homeland, the country can benefit with your presence.
MQM did the smart thing by not getting involved in the sit-ins. Now MQM's graph is going up at the national and international level.
Altaf Hussain is an excellent person, I will vote for your party in next elections.
This is a smart move by the Government to neutralize AH who can begin actively support PAT and PTI and instantaneously paralyze Karachi to bring down the Government. Now, also remove Musharraf's name from the ECL and let him proceed abroad. Take it easy on his prosecution and you would have solved more than half the crisis. The NS govt. is economically smart but politically dull. Let it learn effective politics if it wants to remain in the business of government. You can't make too many enemies and survive. Especially, since Pakistan has powerful, ethnic, sectarian, groups. And, whosoever has power has almost total freedom. For the powerful no country is as free as Pakistan.
"technocratic government"...did I hear this before?
