Misappropriation allegations: NAB arrests government official accused of corruption
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested Bakht Zamin, the principal of Government Vocational & Technical Training, Gulbahar for allegedly embezzling Rs33 million while working for a scheme of the FATA Rural Development Project (FRDP).
According to a handout issued on Tuesday, Zamin misappropriated the amount while he was working as the drawing and disbursing officer in a FRDP vocational training scheme.
The objective of the FRDP was to implement various initiatives during 2008-11 for development in the region.
The accused, Zamin, along with others, pocketed millions of rupees out of the amount set aside for hostel accommodation for students from Khyber, Mohmand and Bajaur and agencies, the handout added.
Zamin is accused of preparing nine fake rent agreements with various hotel and property owners to show that he had booked accommodation for the students.
Moreover, he gave Rs20,000-Rs30,000 to the scheme’s training coordinators to buy necessary items but in the invoices he allegedly recorded the expenditures to be in the millions.
The handout further added that an investigation is under way and the accused will be produced by NAB in the accountability court to obtain physical remand.
