Martyrs remembered: Pakistan celebrates 49th Defence Day

Army tanks, helicopters and other war equipment were on display at a commemorative event held at the Army stadium.

Defence Day was celebrated in the province on Saturday, marked by tributes to martyred soldiers.


In Peshawar, army tanks, helicopters and other war equipment were on display at a commemorative event held at the Army stadium to celebrate the day. A day earlier, paratroopers rehearsed their stunts.

Pakistan Army officials presented the guard of honour at the grave of Captain Sher Khan who died at the Kargil front on 1998. Sher Khan was later awared a Nishan-e-Haider for his sacrifices.

Brigadier Mudasir Khan, Major Tauqeer and Major Naveed laid a wreath to honour the shaheed who was buried in Karnal Sher Khan Kalay, Swabi. Sher Khan’s family and people of the area were also present.

Defence Day was also marked with enthusiasm in Gilgit-Baltistan. Force Commander Major General Asim Muneer paid tributes to Lalak Jan, another Nishan-e-Haider recipient.
