As Justice Faez Isa is elevated to SC, Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal takes up reins of BHC

Former Chief Justice BHC Qazi Faez Isa has been elevated to the post of the judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

QUETTA/ ISLAMABAD: As former Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court (BHC) Qazi Faez Isa took oath as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday, his successor Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal took oath as Chief Justice of BHC at the Governor House in Quetta. 

Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasirul Mulk administered the oath of the office to SC judge to Justice Isa in Islamabad following his elevation.

Meanwhile, Governor Balochistan Mohammed Khan Achakzai administered oath to the new Chief Justice of Balochistan. Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and provincial ministers, lawyers and judges attended the oath taking ceremony.

From lawyer to Justice Mengal

Justice Mengal was born in Quetta on December 25, 1952.

He did his matriculation in 1971 and FA in January 1974. He completed his BA in March 1976, and later on he completed his LLB from the University Law College, Quetta.

Justice Mengal started practicing law in November 1988, and joined the Chamber of Muhammad Muqeem Ansari, a leading advocate of Balochistan of that time.

He got enrolled as an advocate of the High Court on February 14, 1991 and of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on September 13, 2008.

On November 18, 1999, he was appointed as Assistant Advocate General, Balochistan and later on served as Additional Advocate General from September 24, 2002 till September 23, 2004.

During his career with the Bar, in 2006 he was elected as the Vice President of the BHC Bar Association. On July 9, 2009, Justice Mengal was appointed as Chairperson of the Environmental Protection Tribunal, Balochistan and as Senate Member of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University on September 17, 2012.

He was elevated as Additional Judge BHC on September 7, 2009, and later on confirmed as BHC Judge on May 11, 2011.

Justice Mengal was also appointed as Tribunal of Inquiry twice for the purpose of making inquiries into the tragic incidents of killings/firings, which took place on January 15, 2010, in Khuzdar city and on the March 3, 2010, at Balochistan University of Engineering & Technology, Khuzdar, respectively.
