DERA GHAZI KHAN:

Dera Ghazi Khan district police officer (DPO) Ghulam Mubashar Maikan on Thursday dismissed from service an SHO and a sub-inspector (SI) for faulty investigation in a rape case. Last month, a teenage girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men. The suspects were declared innocent by police after an inquiry.

The girl committed suicide on August 30. The case attracted nationwide attention after her family appeared at the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) protest in Islamabad and appealed for justice. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident. Maikan then directed SP Abdul Raheem Shirazi to reinvestigate the case. On Thursday, he presented his inquiry report to the DPO.

In light of the inquiry findings, the DPO dismissed from service Darahma SHO Malik Saleem and SI Ghulam Akbar for delaying the medico-legal certificate, not conducting the DNA test and misusing their authority.

No action was taken against former Darahma SHO Hafiz Noor who is on medical leave. Talking to reporters, Maikan said that due to the faulty investigation conducted by the policemen, the rape suspects: Muhammad Umer, Karim Bakhsh and Nazar were released by a court.
