Levies official killed in shoot-out

A levies official and a suspect were killed in a shoot-out during a raid in the Haryankot village of Dargai, Malakand.


Subedar Elam Khan, in charge of the Garhi Usmani Khel levies station, said the raid was carried out to capture proclaimed offender Amjid Khan alias Daku.

When the squad arrived, Amjid opened fire at them, killing official Wakeel Khan on the spot. The levies fired back, injuring the suspect, who also died on the way to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, a woman kidnapped from Sadiqabad in Rawalpindi was recovered by the Malakand Levies from Qaldara and two suspects in the case were arrested.

Levies officials said weapons were also recovered from the suspects, who hailed from Peshawar and are brothers.

Policeman attacked

In DI Khan, a member of the Frontier Reserve Police suffered injuries in an attack by two unidentified motorcyclists.

A Saddar police official told The Express Tribune that Inayatullah Khan tried to evade the assailants by jumping into a canal. However, the gunmen followed the victim and opened fire, leaving him injured.

The official stated that Inayatullah was returning after escorting a polio vaccination team in DI Khan district. He was taken to the DI Khan District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital. Saddar police registered a case against unidentified assailants.
