Professional beggars

Letter August 21, 2014
We are mainly to be blamed for encouraging because we give them money which fuels their profession.

ISLAMABAD: Day and night we see children, women and men all begging for money on the streets of our cities. Despite laws to check this social evil there seems to be no implementation. Beggars are found in all cities and towns of the country.

We are mainly to be blamed for encouraging because we give them money which fuels their profession. According to Article 25-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, all children should be provided education by the government and it is up to the latter to ensure that this is implemented even for children who beg for a living.

The government has failed to implement the law on the issue but at our own end we should, at the very least, stop giving alms to these professional beggars.
