ISLAMABAD: Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid apprised the Senate that the Pakistan Halal Authority (PHA) is set to promote trade with foreign countries and among  provinces. The minister said that Halal articles and food was a trillion-dollar market and around 80% of the business was run for non-Muslim counties. He said the ministry has devised a plan to set up the PHA through an act of the parliament known as the PHA Act 2014. After detailed consultations with concerned stakeholders, the PHA bill 2014 has been forwarded to the Cabinet for approval, he said. Hamid concluded that the proposed PHA will develop policies, plans and programmes for ensuring compliance of Halal articles and processes with the Halal standard notified by the National Standards Body (PSQCA) and develop the Halal logo for Halal articles and processes.
